Training
Monday Night
This session starts at 6pm from the Queens Centre in Galashiels.
Monday night was traditionally ‘ladies night’ but is now a large mixed training session. Each session lasts approximately one hour and normally commences with a warm-up session followed by roadwork. The training changes week-to-week from a continuous run, long repetitions e.g. km or mile sessions, hill work and short repetitions. In the summer season some of the sessions are off-road.
The sessions are open to everyone of any ability - from jogger upwards.
Charges - there is a 50p charge for each training session - payable in the honesty box - that goes towards training courses for our coaches and to subsidise club kit. There is an additional charge of £1 if you wish to use the showers in the Queens Centre.
Tuesday Night
This session starts at 6:30pm from the Queens Centre in Galashiels and has a similar format to the Monday evening training. It is mainly a men’s night with perhaps more challenging demands on the athlete (it’s hard!).
Charges - as per Monday.
Thursday Night
This session meets at the Tweedbank Athletics track at 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start. The emphasis of the training is on shorter repetitions and speed endurance.
These mixed sessions are open to everyone of any ability - from jogger upwards - and athletes are typically split up into groups of a similar standard..
In summer months, Thursday evening is also junior training night at the track with all athletic disciplines being coached and culminating in the Norwich Union StarTrack awards. The minimum age for the sessions is 9 years old and this session begins at 6.30pm (from 19th April 2007).
Charges - there is a 50p charge for each training session - payable in the honesty box - that goes towards training courses for our coaches and to subsidise club kit. If you are a Gala Harrier member there is a reduced charge of 85p, to use the Tweedbank track. If you are not a member then the charge is £2.00.
Sunday Morning
A number of the club athletes are always in training for one or other of the spring marathons. A number of groups of varying abilities use the Queens Centre as a starting point for their longer endurance runs on a Sunday. For more details of times and routes contact one of the coaches.
Charges - none.
