Gala Harrier juniors swapped their green and white vests for their school colours last week in the Border Schools Cross Country at a blustery Netherdale – and continued the medal haul of previous weeks.
Katie Brown won the 2 kilometre S1 event, with Thomas Otton and Jo Arres taking honours in the S2 boys and girls’ events respectively, over 3K. Paul Henney took the silver medal in the S3 race, with Jenny Burrows the gold in the girls’ S3 event. The 4K senior boys’ bronze medal went to Rowan Marr, while Louise Mercer and Becky Couch placed 1st and 2nd in the senior girls’ race.

‘Clarty.’ The Concise Scots Dictionary defines the word as muddy, dirty, sticky….. a perfect description of the conditions which met Gala Harriers as they reached Falkirk’s Callendar Park on Saturday, which always provides both a wonderful setting and challenging underfoot conditions for the culmination of the annual cross country season. Add to this the coating of Saturday morning snow on the hills, the drifting snow flurries which continued throughout the day, freezing temperatures and a chill wind – traditionally perfect conditions for this, one of the toughest events in the national outdoor calendar. Final leg of the series will be held at Floors Castle, Kelso on Sunday 19th February. Please note this is a change from the original venue at Norham.
