New Year Run 2011

January 6th, 2011

With the severe winter curtailing most sporting activities during December, the gradual thaw and crisp underfoot conditions provided welcome ideal running conditions for this annual run over the Southern Upland Way from Tweedbank Track to the Lauderdale Hotel, which brings together two of the biggest running clubs in the Borders in a non-competitive run to launch the new year.

Although most runners chose the complete route, there were a variety of distances on offer which allowed the runners to choose between 11 3/4 miles to 4 miles to suit their abilities and fitness. With 50 runners choosing to launch their season in this way, the event was once again a great success with runners from both clubs running together and enjoying the magnificent scenery and the challenging terrain before a welcome refreshment at the finish in Lauder.

At a time when most of us think of New Year resolutions and how to redress the excesses over the festive period, you could do a lot worse than try one of the various running clubs in the area and enjoy the health and social benefits an active lifestyle brings. For details on Gala Harriers or Lauderdale Limpers please visit their websites or contact any of the club members.

Happy New Year to all the running community and look forward to some great events in 2011.
