I am writing to thank you for the bottle of wine which was presented on my behalf to my pal John Anderson at the Eildons prizegiving. This year’s race was my worst ever. Despite the fact that I had completed the Eildons 2 Hill Race on 14 occasions, I went off the 2nd hill the wrong way and found myself about halfway to Bowden. However I found my way back and eventually finished. I have no excuse, it’s a great course, the race is well organised, the marshals are encouraging and you arranged for superb weather this year. Thank you for the experience and I’ll be back next year for my 16th Eildons Race.
I’ve only just seen this - glad you enjoyed the race - and hopefully the wine too! I would have awarded a last place prize last year, but htat would have been my wife!
You are in good company taking the detour you did - Jamie Thin did the same many years ago; the difference being he was leading at the time, and ended up 4th! I mentioned it too him not long ago, and it obviously still wrankles somewhat.
Next year should be a goodie - it’s our 50th anniversary, and we are hoping to be an SHRA championship event, and perhaps put up some extra prizes, have an exhibition etc.

Hi Bill,
I didn’t realise you’d taken a detour, hoping to see a pretty border village. See you at the cross country if not before.
