McCain UK Cross Challenge, Belfast
January 25th, 2010On a weekend when most athletes were putting in some hard training before the remaining cross country events of the season, Alice Haining travelled across to Belfast with the Scotland squad to the McCain UK Cross challenge on Saturday.
Although competing with her Gala vest on this time, Alice ran in the Celtic XC international which was part of the event, held over a testing course in parkland and field with a combination of flat and fast and heavy-going terrain. She finished 8th in the Under 17 girls, beating two of her fellow Scottish international colleagues as well as taking the scalp of one Under 20 athlete too and delighting coach and Scotland team manager, Neil Renton. “Alice did herself credit and really got into the mix amongst her rivals” he said.
The Scotland team came away with most of the honours from their event, winning 5 out of 6 of the races in their age groups.
The next outing for Harriers is the Berwick leg of the Borders Winter Cross Country series, held at Spittal on Sunday 31 January. Juniors at 11.30, seniors 12 noon.
PLEASE NOTE too that the Gala leg, cancelled because of the weather earlier this month has been re-scheduled for Sunday 7th February.
