Lasswade X/C

November 2nd, 2009

A good turnout of junior athletes travelled in driving rain to Gorebridge for the Lasswade Cross Country races last Sunday – and the rain never let up, resulting in a waterlogged course of muddy playing fields, a tricky track and a slippy hill. But there were brave performances from all the juniors who acquitted themselves well in the harsh conditions.

First off was young Jo Arres who came in well within the top half of her Under 13 girls’ race in a gutsy 16 minutes 28 seconds over 1 ½ miles, finishing strongly in 13th place out of 28.

For the Under 13 boys, new member Paul Henney ran very confidently for his 12th place out of 26 in 14.49, while Alex Pye competed well for his 23rd place in 16.34.

The Under 15 categories had to tackle the hill twice but it drew the best out of Lucy Henderson-Morris who ran superbly over a 2 mile course for her 3rd place out of 23 in 14.25. Kerry Sandilands also performed well and finished not far behind in 8th place in 14.44.

Rowan Marr represented his club in the Under 15 boys over 2 ½ miles and finished an impressive 4th in 18.51, while Alice Haining in the Under 17 girls’ race came a well-deserved 3rd in 20.10.

WELL DONE TO ALL THE JUNIORS - AND NOT A SENIOR IN SIGHT!!

Harriers - don’t forget the club’s Cross Country Championship and Neil Pott’s trophy will be contested on Saturday 7th November from Boleside with the Presentation Night in the evening. More info on website.
