Harrier’s at the Great North Run

September 21st, 2009

Three Gala Harriers made the journey down to Tyneside for the Great North Run, an event that has to be experienced to be believed. More often than not blessed with superb weather, this year’s conditions were no exception with blue skies and soaring temperatures on the 13.1 miles of city streets.

Amongst the elite field there were plenty of personal best performances but Harrier Graeme Murdoch also came home with a massive PB, shaving over a minute off his previous best and posting a cracking 1 hour 13 minutes and 52 seconds, a stunning result which had pushed him to the limits in the final kilometre along the sea front at South Shields.

Neil Aitchison, a regular competitor on this, his home soil ran an equally impressive race, finishing in 1.26.58. Gina Allen, who had trained so well throughout the summer months also managed a huge personal best time and found her hard work paying off with a superb time of 1.51.47, despite getting held up in the masses at the very start of the race.

On Thursday 1st October the Harriers hold their Annual General meeting in Gala’s Young Men’s Club at 8pm. All are welcome.
