Black Rock Report

May 25th, 2009

The ultra training is paying off for super-slim weight watcher Gregor Mcaneny as he was the first Gala Harrier home at the annual Black Rock race on Friday 22nd May in a time of 28.14 giving him a finishing position of 55th out of 730 runners, which was a record entry for the race.

Next home was Martin Clarke in a time of 29.04 whilst Derek Fraser continued his comeback with a time of 31.12. Malky Gowans was next in a time of 31.41 and Fiona Shepherd (34.47), both deciding this race was ideal preparation for the Edinburgh marathon 9 days later. Sandwiched between these pair was Billy McCulloch (33.09), in his first competitive race after recovering from a broken foot.

It was great to see Ruth McCann back in a Gala vest and she finished in a time of 35.41, whilst Anne Purves clocked 45.55 over the out and back course, which thankfully this year included the knee deep sea water as they turned at the Black Rock.

Good luck to all the Harrier’s taking place in the Edinburgh Marathon and Hairy Haggis relay this coming Sunday.
