Lasswade 10 Miler
March 2nd, 2009Lasswade was the destination for 10 Gala Harriers on Sunday – and a 10 mile road race which has arguably more climbing in its first half than any other race in Scotland. The weather was perfect for racing – a mixture of cloud and sunny spells with no rain.
It seemed to suit Martin Clarke who was the first male harrier home in 66 minutes and 39 seconds, achieving 52nd place out of 406 runners from all over Scotland. Andrea Pogson, finding her form once again was the first Gala woman home in 71.28 and Eileen Nicol not far behind in 75.12, showing that her marathon training is paying dividends.
Also running well over the tough course were: Graham Pogson (76.23) Fiona Shepherd (79.17) Dawn Grant (83.28) Sheila McNab (85.40) Will McDermott (89.14) Caroline McDermott (100.42) and Anne Purves (113.33.) The women took 5th team place overall and the men 15th.
Recent successes have again drawn selectors’ attention to Alice Haining, who will represent Scotland’s East District in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships and World XC trials in Nottingham next Saturday, 8th March.
