Hill Running Dates
February 23rd, 2009The next hill run will be next Saturday the 28th Feb, meeting up at Gala swimming pool at 9am, or in the car park at the Carfraemill Hotel at around 9.40am. Eb Rooney is organising this one. Please note that I am planning to go direct from Smailholm, so don’t wait for me at the pool.
There is a short hill race in Fife the following day, which I am keen to go to if anyone would like to share transport with me. It will be quite “short & sharp”, and may not be an ideal introduction to hill racing. I have listed a few other races in the next few months below that I would like to get along to. As some of them are a couple of hours drive away, I would be keen to have company. I have given a brief description for some of them. Please leave comments or have a word on Saturday or at a training session if you are interested.
Sun 1st March, Bishop Hill; near Glenrothes starts 2pm. Short & steep
Sun 22nd March, Criffell, near Dumfries. Starts 1pm, probably equivalent to a 10 mile road race. This is a mini classic, and one I am very keen to do.
Sat 11th April, Norman’s Law. I don’t know this one – sounds like a low key event – suitable for a first hill race – not too much ascent, and quite scenic.
Sat 18th April, Hunter’s Bog Trot – around Arthur’s seat, so not far to travel, and could be combined with some shopping! Fairly short.
Sat 9th May, Ben Lomond – a true classic up the most southerly of Munro’s. Very popular – pre entry essential. I’m doing it this year.
Wed 13th May Peebles Gipsy Glen Race. I think we should try to get a decent group of Harriers along to this. It’s a nice introduction to hill running, and of course very local.
Sun 7th June Yetholm Hill Race. This is a really good local hill race. About the same “effort” as a half marathon, but much better scenery, and friendlier. You even get cold running water at the end from the burn to wash down in.
13th June Durisdeer. Again, not too far to travel. A good longer challenge over some Borders hills.
20th June Eildon 2 Hills race. What can I say! No excuses. If you aren’t running it, you’ll be expected to marshall.
