Gala To Lauder Run
January 5th, 2009Gala Harriers and Lauderdale Limpers have been trailblazing over the Southern Upland Way on the annual run between Gala and Lauder, held each year on January 2nd.
At a time when the weather could be at its very worst, the sun always seems to shine on the virtuous 50 runners who started from Tweedbank and took the hill route to the Lauderdale Hotel where hot drinks and rolls were on offer.
Underfoot conditions were a mixture of frozen mud and icy puddles so not for the fainthearted but all made it safely, including special olympian Davy Darroch who overslept and set out one and a half hours after everyone else but still made it to Lauder in time for some welcome refreshment. Well done to all who ran off the festive indulgences in such great style and to the Lauderdale for providing the food and drink!
Next outing is the BUPA Great Edinburgh International Cross Country and Inter District XC Championships in Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park on Saturday 10 January, starting at 10am. Gala Harriers selected to run for the East District are Alice Haining, Rowan Marr and Kerry Sandilands for the juniors and Dianne Lauder for the senior ladies.
Serious winter training sessions continue for the Harriers on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings,
