Jardine Wins Eildon 2 Hill Race
June 23rd, 2008Saturday, with its unpredictable weather forecast saw the Eildon 2 Hills Race start at 3pm with dark clouds brewing. 55 runners tackled the stiff climbs and challenging descent, with Gala Harrier’s King of the Mountains, Euan Jardine coming home an impressive winner in 30 minutes and 38 seconds, beating Stevie Cairns into 2nd place.
Gala Harriers, through race organiser Paul Morris plan and manage this event on an annual basis, providing extensive pre-race preparation, marshalling and catering but 13 runners from the club also managed to compete this year, including Rob McCrirrick (35.34), John Cairns (36.07), Tony Lunn (36.45), Martin Clarke (36.51), Derrick Brydon (37.19 and second local male), Graham Pogson (37.55), Dave Nightingale (38.03), Malky Gowans (38.15), Rachel Fagan (39.14 and first local lady), Andrea Pogson (40.27 and first woman veteran), Bill McCulloch (41.49), Billy McBain (45.13) and Shelagh King (53.05).
The Harriers’ best wishes go to Teviotdale Harrier Jonathan Taylor who has regularly won the male local runner prize but this year came a cropper on the very top with a fractured ankle when he was lying in 7th place overall. Thanks are due to the Tweeddale Mountain Rescue service and the marshals and race officials who stayed with him in ever- decreasing temperatures, low cloud and driving rain. We wish you a speedy recovery Jonathan!
