800metres Track Results and Haddington 5 miler
June 2nd, 2008The last week has seen Harrier action on the track, on the road and at the Earlston Border Games.
Tweedbank last Thursday saw the annual staging of the 800metre club race, with a 400m event for primary school aged athletes. The senior ladies race was well won by Katy Anderson in 2 minutes 39 seconds, with Angela Foss a well-deserved 2nd in 2.45 and Fiona Shepherd running strongly in 3.07. The senior mens’ race was won by new member Steve Martin in an impressive 2.29, with Greg Forrest and Gregor McEneny in 2nd and 3rd.
The results for the well supported and closely fought junior events were as follows:
Primary girls 400m:
Ist Kerry Sandilands, 1.11 ; 2nd Jo Marr, 1.19; 3rd Rebecca Nisbet, 1.24.
Primary boys 400m:
1st Rowan Marr, 1.13; 2nd Michael Hutchison, 1.20; Stuart Alison, 1.24.
Secondary girls 800m:
1st Alice Haining, 2.24; 2nd Charlotte Brown, 2.28; 3rd Martha Douglas, 2.34.
Secondary boys 800m:
1st Alistair Russell, 2.22.23; 2nd Andrew McCrirrick, 2.22.58; 3rd Craig Frater, 2.43.
On Saturday at the Earlston Border Games, young Harriers Laura Anderson, Demi Yorke, Martha and Emily Douglas, Sophie Elder and Lucy Morris joined the throngs for the various handicap races and performed well in the glorious sunshine at the Haugh, Earlston, with Lucy in particular picking up an impressive 2nd place in the 1600m Youths handicap. And in the dreich day that followed, senior Harriers Graeme Murdoch and Katy Anderson excelled on the roads around Haddington in the local 5 miler, with Graeme coming in 11th place in 28.30 and Katy the 2nd woman home in 32.13 and 24th overall.
