Edinburgh 1/2 Marathon 16-3-08
March 17th, 2008Nine Gala Harriers took part in the Edinburgh 1/2 marathon on Sunday 16th March.
Coming off the tough cross country season and on to the roads really strengthens an athlete and last weekend in Edinburgh, mens’ Club Captain Graeme Murdoch was no exception to this rule as he stormed round the 13.1 mile course against a strong headwind in a personal best time of 1 hour 18 minutes and 29 seconds, cutting a massive 1 min 15 secs off his previous best.
Gregor McAneny came in strongly in 1.29.04, a solid run after a period of injury, with Iain Bell running well and not far behind him in 1.30.16. Derek Fraser, 1.35.59, returning to form and Malky Gowans, always steady in 1.37.29 completed the male contingent, while not too far behind them was Fiona Shepherd, shaving a spectacular 4 minutes off her previous best time with a massive personal best of 1.43.42.
Dawn Grant who should have been in her bed nursing a fever nevertheless ran a gutsy race in 1.49.13, with Sheila MacNab breathing down her neck in 1.50.17. Running a half marathon for the first time was Louise Johnston who finished strongly in a very respectable time of 2.04.52 in the windy tough conditions.
Dawn Grant Says:
Hi, I ran but had a bad day as I didn’t feel 100%. I finished in 1:49:00 which was slower than last year. Spent the rest of the day under a blanket with a fever. Don’t run if you don’t feel well!

Gregor McAneny Says:
Hello
Both myself and Graham Murdoch ran too. Don’t know what my official time was but I made it 1:29:10 which was my second fastest ever. Very happy as the windy conditions were not very favourable.
Mr Murdoch ran something ridiculously fast like 1:18:25 (approx) which was a PB for him.
Graeme Murdoch Says:
I also ran a new PB of 1.18:29. Gregor McAneny ran 1.29:12. Also running (although I don’t have their times) were Ian Bell, and Derek Fraser.

Sorry guys and gals - re Edin Half: the Southern didn’t carry the changes but I believe the Telegraph did. I will get your results into the next race report. If anyone’s running in Alloa (or anywhere else) can they let me know by close of play on Sunday please?! Thanks.
