Jenkins wins 4th Scottish Marathon Title
September 4th, 2007Gala Harrier Kate Jenkins won her 4th Scottish Marathon Championship title at Moray Marathon in Elgin on Sunday September 2nd, finishing 6 minutes clear of 2nd placed Kate McKinnon (Carnegie Harriers) in 3:10.43.
McKinnon – who set a personal best – led the Carnegie team to a successful defence of the National Marathon team title which they won in 2006 in Loch Ness.
Jenkins – the sole Harriers female attempting the 26.2 mile event - ran a conservative opening 13 miles, picking up the pace in the second half of the race once she had the leader in sight.
Representing the Harriers men, Gregor McAneny, who has had a successful summer to date, most recently at Haddington Half Marathon in mid-August where he finished in 1:27.12 in 24th place overall, clocked 3.20 to finish within his target time.
In the ½ marathon, Gala’s Carol Fortune was third in 1:37:05.
The race was won by Jamie Reid (Ron Hill Cambuslang), his second Scottish Marathon Championships title, in 2:33.11.
