Harriers triumph in Hawick

September 4th, 2007

Gala Harriers runners once again turned out in force to race the Teviotdale Harriers 10k Road Race on Sunday (August 26th). First Harrier home was Euan Jardine in 3rd place overall (35.06), finishing exactly one minute behind the winner Brian Turner (Arbroath and District AAC).

Graham Murdoch, who has had an outstanding summer to date focusing particularly on the Navyblue Scottish Road Race Grand Prix Series, finished in 5th in a new personal best time of 35.29, a 20 second improvement on his City of Edinburgh/Scottish Gas 10k time from early August. Making up the successful Harriers men’s team – who won the team title ahead of the well represented home team Teviotdale Harriers and Moorfoot runners – was Martin Clarke in 13th place, clocking 38.18.

Sneaking into the top 20 were Tony Lunn (39.28) and Katy Anderson – who also set a new PB (39.53) – in 19th and 20th places respectively. Kate Jenkins – in her final preparations for next weekend’s Moray Marathon - was next home in 25th place in 41.11, with Graham Jones in 30th, finishing in 42.29. On his way back to race fitness, Robin Murray clocked 43.32, just ahead of John Paterson in 43.35.

Gillian Duncan – who would have made up the winning Harriers ladies team had their been a prize – finished in 39th, improving on her 2006 time with 44.18 but missing out on the prizes on this occasion after a successful summer. Tommy Knox finished in 45.41 in 47th with Jane Chalmers and Dawn Grant finishing together in 49.44 and 49.46 in 63rd and 64th places from an 85-strong field.
