Race Report For 800 metres
June 4th, 2007In cold and wet conditions last Thursday, the Harriers held their 2nd track race of the season. In the P3/4/5 races, held over one lap of the track, Lucy Inglis ran a strong race, leading from start to finish, to win the gold medal. Sarah Glenfield took second place with Jo Marr finishing in third. In the boys race, Michael Hutchinson just edged ahead of Alexander Simpson with 50 metres to go to win the race. Liam Howel finished in third. In the U11 category, Hannah Hunter won the 800m race to win the gold medal. In the U13 categories, David Bonnar continued his good form to win in a time of 2.42:43. Rowan Marr (2nd) and Cameron Gowans (3rd) completed the placings. In the girls U13 race, Martha Douglas was dominant, storming home in a time of 2.46:40, well clear of Charlotte Brown (2nd) and Kerry Sandilands (3rd). The U15 events were well contested with Alice Haining winning comfortably in 2.33:25 from Ashley Hedderley and Gillian Sandie. In the boys race, Andrew McCrirrick won in a time of 2.31:90, almost 8 seconds clear of Paul Ferguson (2nd) and Peter Vint (3rd). In the last of the junior age groups, Gillian Inglis won the U17 girls category in 2.49:56 and Alastair Russell won the U17 boys in a time of 2.27:37, a time which would have seen him challenge for a medal in the Senior mens race. In the senior section, Gillian Duncan won in a time of 2.44:15, edging out Leanne Haining (2nd) and Rachel Fagan (3rd). Thirteen men lined up for the start of the mens race, which saw Rory Methven take the title with a fairly modest 2.23:25. John Borthwick finished second in 2.25, pleased to have got through the race without a recurrence of injury that has kept him out of action for a long time. Gregor McAnenny finished third, continuing his seasons good form.
