Gala Harriers runaway success at Alloa
March 19th, 2007Ten Gala Harriers braved the horrendous weather conditions to take on a record entry at Alloa Half Marathon on Sunday 18th March, leaving with the 1st senior women’s vet prize and the senior women’s team prize.
The course was bathed in sunshine for the first quarter but as runners took a
turn to run along the side of the Hillfoots, the biting headwind wind battled
against them at every step for the best part of 4 miles.
Martin Clarke was first Harrier home in 1.28.33, using the race as a hard
training exercise for the forthcoming London Marathon.
Following Martin in were Katy Anderson in 1.30.17, setting a new PB by over 2
minutes despite the stormy conditions, and Rachel Fagan (1.30.35), both runners
also in training for London.
Jason Roberts and Derrick Brydon finished strongly in 1.34.33 and 1.35.44
respectively, both delighted to set new PB’s, with Carole Fortune clocking
1.35.42 to make up the senior women’s victorious team.
Richard Lazzari ran a great race to finish in 1.37.07 on his half marathon
debut.
Eileen Nicol (1.40.30) and John Wright (1.40.43) finished in quick succession,
with Margot Crosbie crossing the line in 1.41.04, to take the women’s prize for
1st senior vet.
