Harriers at Broxburn
January 22nd, 2007Gala Harriers travelled north to Broxburn on Saturday 20th January to partake in the East District League Cross Country event. Runners and spectators had to brave the elements on an open course that was subjected to high winds at regular intervals over the afternoon.In the first race of the day, David Bonnar, competing in his first Eat League race, ran a measured and strong race to finish 3rd in the U11 category in a time of 5.38. Next up Alice Haining continued her excellent form with another 1st place in the U13 category over the 2.6km course. This means that the young Gala athlete has completed a clean sweep of the league races. Sisters Hannah and Emily Jones ran excellent races both finishing strongly to record 7th and 17th positions, despite a fall from Emily, in times 11.21 and 12.01 respectively.
Harriet Murray was the sole representative in the Girls U15 category recording a time of 19.14 to finish a respectable 18th within a strong field. Kate Jenkins continued the solo runs in the senior event to finish in 8th place in 23.18 over the 6.2km senior women’s course.
In the final race of the day, over a 9.3km course, Euan Jardine ran into 10th place with a strong performance in a time of 32.21, showing a welcome return to form. Alan Goodson was elated with his second Harrier home spot, finishing 110th (38.08) running a controlled race to overtake both Martin Clarke (114th) and Tony Lunn (119th) who finished in times of 38.10 and 38.31. Alistair Wright was next Harrier home finishing close behind in 129th place (39.05). Gregor McAneny overtook Malky Gowans on the last lap of the 3 lap course to finish 152nd in a time of 40.55, with Malky finishing 156th in a time of 41.14.
The cross country season continues on Sunday 28th January as the Harriers travel to Wooler to compete in the 6th race of the 7 race Borders Cross Country series.

Just a quick note from a very hot New Zealand to say well done to all who ran at Broxburn. Looks like there were some fine performances. Also thanks Tony for organising teams. Looks like you’ll be men’s captain next year eh?!?!?! Been trying to do a bit of training over here, however the wine and food seems to be winning the battle at the moment. Look more like a prop forward than a runner!!! In Queenstown at the moment but will be back at the beginning of February.
