Ladhope cross country tests Harriers
December 4th, 2006The Ladhope cross country handicap proved to be an exciting competition, contested by 15 Harriers considered to be a bit mad by the officials who kindly withstood the freezing conditions at various points throughout the course, enabling the race to take place.
After a fantastic cat and mouse chase over the 4-lap/5.5 mile course, Nicola Meikle (47.33) finally passed Eileen Nicol (47.38) for the last time on the downhill to the finish to win.
Neil Aitchison, back marker in the handicap, stormed through the field to cross the line in 3rd place in 35.39, the fastest net time of the day.
Stuart Barrie (38.15), a guest runner from Hunters Bog Trotters, finished in 4th place, with Graham Jones (40.17), Kate Jenkins (39.40), in the third fastest time of the day, and Katy Anderson (41.29), coming through in 5th, 6th and 7th place respectively.
Martin Clarke ran strongly to cross in 8th place in the 39.43.
Bellahouston road runners had a guest representative on the day, who finished in 9th place in 51.50, not a bad effort for his first attempt at cross country.
Tim Howell (44.01), Robin Murray (43.14) and Mike Young (44.19) ran close net times and finished in 10th, 11th and 12th respectively.
The field concluded with Karen Renton (58.28), John Patterson (46.58) and Derek Brydon, in his first Ladhope experience, finishing in 15th place in 46.30.
