Gala Harriers make the journey over the Forth for East League race
November 28th, 2006A good squad of Gala Harriers competed in the second East Cross Country League race of the season at Kirkcaldy on Sunday in great winter running conditions.
Alice Haining finished 1st girl in the male/female combined U13s race in a time of 9.32 over the 3km course, setting a precedence for the rest of the Harrier’s over the afternoon’s racing.
In the U15 event, James Haining was first Harrier home in 19.09, followed closely by promising new recruit Harriet Murray, in her first League race for the club, in 19.20, with Gillian Inglis finishing in 20.07.
The girls’ race was won by ex-Gala Harrier Laura Goodson who ran a fantastic race to finish in 16.33.
In the senior ladies race Kate Jenkins lead home the Harriers in 15th place overall, with a time of 29.26 over the 6.4km course. Katy Anderson followed in 22nd place in 30.35, with Melanie Goodson (31.51) and Karen Haldane (32.06), finishing strongly in 43rd and 49th places respectively.
Continuing in bright sunshine, a men’s field of around 220 battled it out over the challenging 8.8km course.
Euan Jardine was first Harrier home in a time of 33.53, followed by Graham Murdoch in 36.34 and Gregor McAneny, in a superb League debut, in 40.16.
Graham Jones and Malky Gowans finished in succession to record times of 41.30 and 42.55 respectively, with Will McDermott (43.48) and John Paterson (44.50), making up the full Harriers compliment.
