Jenkins on top form again

September 4th, 2006

The Moray Road Running Festival is unique in Scotland as the only event, which incorporates a marathon, half marathon and 10K race all at the same time. Gala Harriers only had three runners taking part this year with Kate Jenkins making it eight marathon titles in the last ten years, when she won this years race in an excellent time of 2.58.29.Kate finished 8th overall from the field of 128 runners and was followed over the line by Carole Fortune who finished 2nd lady and 1st female veteran in another excellent time of 3.14.40. Competing in the half marathon was David Hunter, who was running his first half of the year and completed the race in a creditable 1.39.38.
Numbers may have been down in Elgin because it was competing with the biggest race in the country, the Great Scottish Run. Paul Morris ran 1.36.07 and was the fastest harrier in the half marathon, with Allan Gordon clocking 1.39.45, Lisa Gregg 1.47.12 and Linda Little finishing in 2.20.08.

In the 10K race it was Dave Nightingale who ran the fastest time for the harriers, finishing in 41.10, with Derek Fraser next in 44.13 and Anne Purves running 60.21.
This Thursday at 6.30 will see the final club race of the season with the running of the Henderson Trophy at Tweedbank. The race consists of a closed handicap one mile track race and is quickly followed by a 3 mile open handicap cross country run around the Melrose riverside walkway.

I also ran in Great Scottish Run half marathon and got a PB of 1:54:20 despite lack of sleep from attending a birthday party the night before!

Just goes to show that if you put in the training and believe in yourself, you’ll get the results you deserve.
