Euan Jardine’s race report from Switzerland

July 13th, 2006

On Sunday Euan Jardine competed in the Neirivue a Le Moleson mountain race. The race was held in Switzerland in a small village called Bulle which is around a 100km from Geneva.

The race was uphill only over a distance of 10.6km with included a 1290m climb. A strong field of 416 runners toed the line. In the field were Jonathan Wyatt of New Zealand and Marco De Gasperi of Italy who have nine world mountain championships between them.

Not one to be overawed, in fact Euan relishes top class opposition and he ran well to finish 19th overall from the world class field. The performance was also good enough to earn him 50 Swiss francs for his endeavours. Commenting on the race Euan said:

“It was a very tough race probably the toughest race I have ever competed in. The climb was very steep and just kept going and going no respite what so ever. I had no idea how I would run as I was going to pull out on Thursday due to medical problems and I was also on antibiotics all week.

So I was really pleased with my performance the standard was also unbelievable it was practically a mini world champs. I definently learned a lot and gained a lot of confidence from the trip”
