Gala’s Veteran’s In action

March 1st, 2005

Five Gala Harriers headed off to the Scottish National Masters Cross Championship at Bellahouston Park Glasgow on Sunday. The course was soft under foot so a little extra effort was needed but conditions were prefect other wise. In the ladies race Leanne Haining had another good run finishing in 7th place overall in a time of 25:55 over the 4 miles. Leanne was very unlucky not to get a medal, with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places all going to runners in the same age group as herself. The men’s race was run over 6 miles and attracted a good field of 171 runners. Jack Knox was trying hard for the gold but had to be content with the silver on the day in a time of 36:45 giving him 2nd place in his 60+ age group and 76th overall. Next harrier in was Alastair Laurie (97th) in 37.59 followed by Malky Gowans (127th) in 40:37 and finally Allan Gordon (149th) in 43.31.

There was also a small group of harriers taking part in the Lasswade 10 Mile road race. The event was very popular this year with nearly 400 runners taking on the tough undulating course. Ladies captain Tish Affleck continues to show good form and finished 3rd lady overall and 1st in her age category, in a time of 63.57. Katy Anderson ran a storming race to finish 6th overall in a time of 68.43 and Karen Renton completed the team finishing in a time of 83.29 to give the ladies 3rd place in the team event.

Next race for the harriers is the very popular Round the Houses 10K at Grangemouth on Sunday 13th March. This is a club points championship race so a good turnout is expected.
