Euan Jardine produced another superb run in the final race of the East District XC League at Corstorphine Hill in Edinburgh on Saturday. Euan made light work of the course and conditions to claim 10th place from the 240 starters and easily finish top harrier on the day in a time of 32.34. It was a depleted squad who lined up at the start of the 9km race with injured club captain Robin Murray obliged to run to make up the team. It was left to Alastair Laurie to try to follow Euan round but the 123 places between them at the finish showed what a tough ask that was. Alastair finished 133rd in 40.15 and he was closely followed by Jim Langsdale who ran a fine race to finish 144th in 40.52. Robin Murray limped home in 152nd place with Malky Gowans in 161st and Davy Darroch in 173rd.
Katy Anderson produced a fine run in the ladies race picking up an excellent 15th place over the 6km course in a time of 27.10, with
Nicola Meikle following in 20th spot in 29.16 and Eileen Nichol completing the ladies team in 24th place in a time of 29.34.
Gala’s juniors also faired well on the day with Alice Haining picking up a fine 3rd place in the U11 girl’s race, despite suffering all week with flu. Laura Goodson produced another great run to also pick up 3rd spot in the U13 race, with James Haining finishing a respectable 26th in the U13 boy’s race from a field of 54 runners.
Next race for the harriers, who make the effort to turn up, will be Round 6 of the Winter XC Series at Wooler on Sunday.
