First Win For Gemma at the Henderson
January 1st, 200521 Harriers, plus a few guests, assembled in the sunshine at Tweedbank on Saturday to compete for the Henderson Trophy. This popular track mile and cross-country event carried the customary recriminations about handicaps so the organisers knew they had done something right!
Once the dust settled however it was refreshing to see a new and young Harrier, Gemma Anderson, claim the overall first place. Accusations of fix were completely unfounded but it will be nice to see a trophy at home again.
In previous years the first prize has been shared but this time around it was the turn of 2nd place as Tommy Knox and Graeme Jones finished dead equal.
On the track Rob McCrirrick finished first in a time of 5:06, quickly followed by Ron Logan at 5:08 and Ewan Lindores at 5:14.
A special mention goes to Dave Knox from the Border Telegraph who finished first in the cross-country race. Dave was also writing an article about the event which will be in this weeks edition.
Many thanks to all the competitors, the marshalls and time-keepers who helped make the event possible.
