AGM 2005
January 1st, 2005The Gala Harriers AGM was held last Wednesday in the Salmon Inn. There was a good turnout of members to hear club president Karen Renton praise the club for the progress they have made this year. Membership has risen again, more younger senior runners are competing in cross-country and road races and for the first time we have small groups of juniors competing regularly at national, district and local XC events.
Karen stressed that the clubs future is its youth and she hoped that the coaches and volunteers will continue to give their valuable support.
Men's captain Robin Murray praised the efforts of Euan Jardine, which have seen him win international selection for the world hill running championships in New Zealand, among many other successes this year.
He also praised the efforts of John Hunter in winning national titles in 10K wheelchair events and for his continued support of the club. Davy Darroch was also highlighted for his achievements in winning a silver medal at the special Olympics in Glasgow as well as picking up gold and silver at the Scottish Learning Difficulties Championships.
Robin asked for more support at the Tuesday night training sessions and for some new fresh faces to compete in national, district and local cross-country events.
He also asked for more support from parents with junior runners, helping at training sessions and getting juniors to races.
Ladies captain Tish Affleck was encouraged by the healthy turn out of both ladies and men at the Monday night training sessions. Self confidence is growing in many of the ladies and more and more are tackling the marathon for the first time this year.
Tish praised the efforts of Leanne Haining and Rachel Fagan in winning their age groups at the Eastern Borders XC series, as well as recognising Dianne Lauder for her win at the Hawick 10K.
The junior section has had some outstanding results with Alice Haining winning bronze at the National XC and defeating many older runners in the U14 hill running champ's.
Laura Goodson winning silver at the Hill running championships and for a string of fine performances on the track at district and national level.
There were a few new faces elected onto the committee, with ladies captain Tish Affleck and club secretary Angela Foss both stepping down from office.
Eileen Nicol was elected as the new club secretary, with Katy Anderson taking on the captains role.
Club president Karen Renton, men's captain Robin Murray and treasurer Martin Clarke all remained in office. New faces on the committee will include Derek Fraser, Paul Morris and Fiona Dalgleish.
