Great North Run Entry Information

December 19th, 2004

Information from the organisors concerning the ballot to decide entry to this year’s the Great North Run. On Behalf of the Great North Run Organisors

The increased number of participants provides the Great North Run team with a wide variety of challenges, not least how to deliver a fair entry system that gives everyone the chance to participate. This year, the 25th Anniversary of the BUPA Great North Run, we will be introducing a ballot system for the event, as it is simply no longer feasible to use the ‘first come, first served’ system.

We are delighted to inform you that the entry ballot will open exclusively in The Times Newspaper on Monday January 10th for a period of five days. Each day The Times will publish a daily password that will be needed to enter the online ballot. At the end of this period, on Sunday 16th January, a random draw will take place for the first 2,000 entries, with applicants being informed by email on Tuesday 18th January whether they have been successful.

All unsuccessful applicants from The Times will automatically be entered into the general ballot, which will have opened on the 15th January. The general ballot for the remaining places in the 2005 BUPA Great North Run will take place on the 15th February, with all applicants being informed by Friday 18th February whether they have been successful with their entry.

Best of luck with your application and everyone at Great Run wishes you all the best for 2005.

The Great Run Team
