Conditions were not at there best, with a strong blustery wind, which seemed to blow into everyone’s face regardless of the direction they ran in.
Despite this there were still some very encouraging times run by the harriers with Struan King picking off another personal best time finishing in 36.45 and Alan Strain also PB’ing in a time of 41.14. First harrier home was John Borthwick, who nursed a sore calf round in a very respectable time of 34.14. Neil Renton is concentrating more on endurance running rather than speed, as he prepares for the Amsterdam marathon but he can still be pleased with his time of 36.37.
Mark Bryson produced another fine run to finish in 37.15 and he was followed over the line by another Amsterdam bound runner Tish Affleck who clocked 38.04. Ron Logan continues on the comeback trail and finished in 38.55, just ahead of Roger Kerr, 39.02 and Bryan Bailey who clocked 39.08, while Robin Murray sneaked under his 40minute target and finished in 39.30.
Leanne Haining and husband Andrew were pleased with their times of 41.50 and 45.00 respectively, while the junior section of the family also produced some excellent results with Alice finishing 4th girl in the junior race, closely followed by brother James. Angela Foss found the climb up the Queen’s Drive in Holyrood Park a tough start to the race but she recovered to clock a respectable 43.22, while ladies captain Eileen Nichol finished close behind her in 43.55.
Amy Capper produced an excellent time in her first 10K race and the St. Andrews University bound student can expect to knock a good few minutes off her 49.25 over the coming years. Anne Lawrie didn’t run her fastest 10K but found the atmosphere and the course very much to her liking while she ran round it in a time of 55.56.
Tina Hulton was the next harrier over the finish line recording 56.26, while Susan Howell just failed to dip under the hour mark, finishing in 60.30, with Anne Purves completing the harriers turnout in a time of 65 minutes.
