Gala Harriers in Hawick 10K Action

August 29th, 2004

There was a healthy turn out of 16 Gala Harriers at the Hawick 10K on Sunday. On a blustery day, good times were at a premium but several harriers still managed to record personal bests. First harrier home was Robin Murray in a modest time of 40.39, with Graham Capper close behind finishing in 40.54. Graeme Jones must have been inspired by the Olympic 10K because he started off at a cracking pace for the first couple of miles. However the wind and his fast start eventually took its toll and he had to be content with a time of 41.30, which was still a PB.

Rachel Fagan shrugged off her disappointment from last weeks Great Scottish Run to record a PB of 41.48 and finish as 3rd lady. Angela Foss continues to show excellent form to record an impressive time of 42.44, with Eileen Nichol close behind in 43.44. Gillian Duncan and Fiona Dalgleish went neck and neck as they battled it out over the last 50 metres, to cross the line together in the same time of 46.35.

Lucy Alkin-Young finished strongly to record 48.48, while Gillian McCrirrick was very close to dipping under 50 minutes, when she finished in 50.20. Sharon McClemont still had enough gas in the tank to produce a fast finish and will be pleased with her time of 53.25. Anne Lawrie looked very comfortable finishing in 54.50, while Tina Hulton and Sheila King also finished strongly to record 55.06 and 55.12 respectively.

Last harrier but by no way last finisher was Tania Bridges who can be pleased with her time of 56.22.

In the junior fun run, Alice Haining had another outstanding run to finish 4th overall and 1st girl, while her brother James also put in a storming run to finish 6th. Andrew McCrirrick had an excellent run, finishing 10th in a good quality field of junior runners.
