Gala Harriers take to the track

June 24th, 2004

There was a healthy turn out of junior and senior Gala Harriers at the Tweedbank track on Thursday night, to run in the club’s 400 and 800 metre championships. Cameron Gowans showed what a good prospect he is by storming round in the P3/4 400 metre race in 78 seconds. The P5/6 race also had a run away winner with Drew Airlie finishing in 86 seconds.

Amy Sharp ran a great race to win the P7/S1 800 metres in a time of 3.04, with Sandy Walker showing everyone a clean pair of heels in the U16 800 metre race. His time of 2.22 would have been good enough to see him finishing 5th in the men’s senior race.

Angela Foss ran a good tactical race to pull away from her nearest challengers with 150 metres to go in the ladies 800. Angela won in 2.38 with Gillian Duncan finishing 2nd in 2.42 and Rachel Fagan 3rd in 2.43.

There was an exciting and close race in the men’s 800, which saw Ron Logan just pull in front with 20 metres to go to win in a time of 2.15. Ron was closely followed over the line by John Borthwick and Fergus Johnstone, in 2.16 and 2.17 respectively.

Many congratulations must go to Jack Knox who ran superbly in the Veterans track championships in Dumfries last weekend. Jack walked off with gold medals for the 800 and 1500 metres and had to be content with silver in the 5000.
