John Borthwick added the Intersport 10K title to his growing trophy tally on Saturday as the Gala Harriers took part in their annual 10K club handicap race round the Hollybush, Rink Farm circuit.
There was a healthy turnout of 25 runners lined up at the start at Gala Academy, with Anne Purves leading off first in the handicap event. Runners set off at regular intervals chasing Anne, with John Borthwick more than 23 minutes behind the first runner.
The huge time gap was no problem to John as he picked his way steadily through the field, overtaking David Hunter with 800 metres to go, to claim first place in a scratch time of 34.06.
David had to be content with second place but had the satisfaction of setting another personal best time of 41.50. Third runner home was the new slimmed down Alan Strain, who tailed David all the way round to record a personal best time of 42.00.
Keeping the tally of personal bests going was the first lady runner, Lynne Knox who recorded 52.27 to finish 4th overall.
