Sunday was the annual running of the Peebles 3 bridges handicap race, which attracted a high quality field of runners. Defending champion John Borthwick was at the mercy of the handicappers this year and was the back marker at the start of the race, with it all to do if he was going to win.
Despite running much faster than last year John didn’t even get in the top six, finishing 7th and out of the prize money. Euan Jardine was much more successful and ran a cracking race over the 3 mile course to finish 2nd behind Kelso’s Daryl Hastie, who was uncatchable on the day.
Jack Knox had yet another good run to finish 3rd , showing runners half his age a clean pair of heals, while training partner Alastair Laurie had to be content with finishing 10th. Kate Jenkins ran well despite having run the Lochaber marathon last week to finish 18th, with David Darroch completing the Gala Harriers runners, finishing 22nd.
