First down the Mall to the finish line was Neil Renton in a very respectable time of 2.54.53. He was followed next by Derek Fraser who just dipped under the 3-hour mark with a time of 2.59.10.
Eileen Nicol has put in some strong training over the last few months and her efforts were rewarded by a superb time of 3.32.12, a full 6 minutes inside her previous best time. Club president Graham Capper’s longest run this year had only been about 13 miles, so why he decided to double it on Sunday is anyone’s guess. Despite this he got round in 3.40.16 and was last seen doing the stiff legged shuffle through Admiralty Arch.
Angela Foss kept going through the rain to record 3.57.34, which is 3 minutes faster than last year. Karen Renton found the streets of London a bit hard and finished with very sore feet in a time of 4.20.33. Andy Wilmhurst a harrier from the past was also running and he posted an excellent time of 2.50.38.
The spring marathon season moves up North on Sunday when Leanne Haining, Laura Howie and Rachel Fagan, take on the Lochaber Marathon in Fort William. Everyone in the harriers wishes them the best of luck.
If there are any runners in the area who have taken part in the London Marathon and would like to keep up their training, they would be very welcome to run with the Gala Harriers on their training nights.
Training is on Monday and Tuesday at the Queens Centre, Galashiels at 6.00pm and 6.30pm respectively and 6.15pm at the Tweedbank track.
Congratulations to Euan Jardine and Kate Jenkins who have been selected to run for Scotland in the Knockdhu Home International hill running championship in Northern Ireland on Saturday.
