Refined display from Borthwick at Grangemouth 10K
March 14th, 2004John Borthwick put in a good performance on Sunday to secure a top 20 finish at the Grangemouth ‘Round the Houses’ 10K road race. John had to work hard to record a time of 35.15 in the strong gusty wind conditions, which made the last 2 kilometres particularly tough. Next Gala Harrier to finish was Robin Murray, who recorded 41.20, not one of his fastest times but after recent injury Robin was happy just to get round.
Mike Young put in a strong run to record 43.18, with David Hunter clocking an encouraging 43.48. Karen Renton used the race as a bit of speed work in preparation for the London Marathon and cruised round to finish in a time of 47.43.
Lucy Alkin-Young was the last harrier to finish, putting in a storming finish down the last hundred metres, she clocked 48.32 and will surely knock chunks off that time over the rest of the season.
Next race for the harriers is the final Winter XC Series race at Lauder on Sunday 21st March.
