Winter XC Series at Norham
November 30th, 2003The Norham course has a bit of everything in it and is a tough but enjoyable race, which was much to Ron Logan’s and Kate Jenkins’ liking Kate Jenkins was in better fettle on Sunday at Norham, running for Gala this time, in the second race of the Winter XC Series. She showed more than a few of the men a muddy pair of heals as she took 18th place overall and 2nd lady in the race.
The Norham course has a bit of everything in it and is a tough but enjoyable race, which was much to Ron Logan’s liking taking first spot and obviously feeling no after effects from the two races he ran on Saturday. Helping Ron claim the second team place behind Dunbar RC, were Rob McCrirrick (9th) and Alastair Laurie (13th).
Other Gala runners taking part were Jack Knox, Martin Clarke, Robin Murray, Paul Morris and Karen Renton.
In the junior race Sarah Mathers got the perfect confidence boost before her big race next weekend in Edinburgh, by finishing 1st girl. Sarah won’t quite be lining up alongside Paula Radcliffe and co but she is competing for the Borders in a junior race before the European XC Championships start.
Getting back into good running form is Greg Alexander who finished 3rd overall with Kirstie Thomson, Alex Hain, Ross Johnston, Lucy Jones and Andrew McCrirrick following him home.
Next week the harriers will be running their annual Ladhope Hill Race. The senior race starts at 2.00pm, with a junior race starting at 1.30pm. The presentation will be held as usual in the Ladhope Inn around 4.30 and will be followed by The Gala Harriers Christmas night out.
The London Marathon may not be until April but entries closed last month. Most harriers know by now if they have got an entry but if anyone has been unsuccessful then the harriers have two guaranteed entries. Names should be given to Angela Foss if you have been unsuccessful and would still like to run, a draw will be made in the New Year to decide who gets the places.
