Great Scottish Run

Glasgow was the destination for a few harriers on Sunday, with the lure of the Great Scottish Run. Glasgow was the destination for a few harriers on Sunday, with the lure of the Great Scottish Run. This year they offered a half marathon and a 10 Km road race, with 3000 runners taking on the 10K and 8000 running in the half marathon.

The weather was perfect for running in stark contrast to the monsoon conditions at last year event. Dave Nightingale still had a bit left in the tank, despite running in the Henderson race the day before and he recorded a respectable time of 38.20 min’s in the 10K, with Derick Fraser recording 41.30.

Mark Bryson ran an excellent half marathon to record 1 hr 22 min’s, with George Runciman running a comfortable 1 hr 26 min’s. Robin Murray found the first 0.1 of a mile pretty easy but the last 13 miles were a lot tougher as the effects of the Henderson race and a couple of bottles of red wine at the club BBQ kicked in.

He still managed to finish strongly to record 1 hr 29 min’s, with Graeme Sutherland not too far behind in a time of 1 hr 42 min’s. Running her first ever half marathon was Rachel Fagan and her excellent time of 1 hr 36 min’s, should set her up nicely for her next race The Great North Run.
