Eileen and Marion Keep Henderson in the family
September 5th, 2003There’s an unspoken rule in the harriers during handicap club races and that is, if you win it once, you’ll not win it again! But Marion is re-writing this rule by now recording a hat-trick of wins There’s an unspoken rule in the harriers during handicap club races and that is, if you win it once, you’ll not win it again! Marion Facchini is the exception, not only did she win the Henderson Rose Bowl Trophy on Saturday but she did it for the third time.
True she has to share the trophy this year as she was tied for first place with ladies club captain Eileen Nicol but there were no bad feelings about having to share the trophy because Marion and Eileen are sisters and they were both delighted for each other.
The Henderson Trophy was once again blessed with good weather and a healthy turnout of 31 runners, ready to take up the combined challenge of a sealed handicap one mile race round the Tweedbank track and a 2.5 mile cross-country race round the Tweed, between Darnick, Gattonside and Melrose.
Eileen was first in the mile, followed by Katy Anderson and Marion, who tied for second place. The roles were reversed in the cross-country with Marion storming home to win the race and Eileen taking second place in front of Malky Gowans.
Eileen and Marion’s combined total for the two races were the same with 3 points, giving them the trophy, with Katy Anderson taking third spot on 7 points, followed by Laura Howie on 8 points.
Fastest scratch times in the mile were, Neil Renton 5.13, Neil Aitchison 5.16 and Fergus Cochrane 5.17. In the cross-country race, the fastest scratch time was Fergus Cochrane 16.14, Neil Aitchison 16.23 and Neil Renton 16.31.
