Gala Retain the Limpers v Harriers 10K Challenge
May 20th, 2003There was an excellent turnout of Gala Harriers and Lauderdale Limpers on Tuesday night as the two clubs battled it out over a tough 10K Lauder course. This annual race has grown in popularity and attracted 45 Limpers, Harriers and guests this year.
The format is easy with each runner setting off at different times depending on their handicap and the lowest total from the first three men and women in each club deciding the destination of the S & F Wilson 10K Challenge Trophy.
First home from both clubs was the harriers Sharon McClemont, who is improving by the week and was only caught in the last few hundred metres by a guest runner from taking the individual trophy. Gala was again successful this year and retained the trophy thanks to the efforts of Sharon McClemont, Lucy Alkin-Young and Laura Howie for the ladies and Graeme Jones, Neil Renton and Martin Clarke for the men.
There was an excellent tea after the race in the Lauder Leisure Centre where race sponsors Stuart and Francis Wilson made the presentation of prizes. Many thanks to both Stuart and Francis for their prizes and also to Graeme Sutherland from the Lauderdale Limpers who organised the race.
