Monklands Half Marathon
May 11th, 2003Four ladies from the club travelled to the Time Capsule to undertake on a journey into the unknown all in the name of Edinburgh marathon training.
Once the four intrepid travellers found the changing rooms in the time capsule the next task was to find the starting line which was located 1 mile into the Drumpellier Country Park. Only a small field embarked on the half marathon course, which consisted of one small lap and two larger loops.
The course took in a nice mixture of scenery taking runners through the country park and round some local houses. Parts of the course were undulating but none of the climbs compared to Arthurs seat which is part of the Edinburgh marathon course.
Eileen Nichol, despite having run the London marathon only 4 weeks ago was the first harrier home in a time of 1:42:49, a delighted Karen Renton was the next harrier home in a time of 1:44:23. Anna White and Ruth McCann wished that time could have stood still for only 26 seconds to allow them to finish the course in under 2 hours.
