January 19th, 2003

With a large contingent of Gala Harriers starting their preparations for spring marathons in London and Boston it was a much depleted contingent that took on the muddy surrounds of Thirlestane Castle for the 3rd race in the Eastern Borders Cross-Country s
Overall 134 runners took part in the junior and senior races and the home race obviously spurred on a great return to form in Lauderdale Limpers’ John Wilkinson, former Scottish Hill race champion, finishing the senior race in 26 minutes and 20 seconds, just seven seconds ahead of Kelso runner Keith Lyall.

1st team on the day were Teviotdale Harriers (26 points), holding off Gala Harriers (29 points) and Lauderdale Limpers (32 points). In the ladies race Jill Tait of Eyemouth finished first in 30 minutes and 5 seconds ahead of Sally Calder from Lauderdale Limpers (31.16).

Gala Harriers competing were: Ron Logan (5th, 27.06), Neil Aitchison (11th, 28.25), Jack Knox (13th, 28.40), Rob McCrirrick (22nd, 29.36), Dave Nightingale (27th, 30.49), Paul Morris (34th, 31.23) and Charles Roberts (48th, 33.19).

In the junior race Kirstie Thompson just held off Natasha Mar to finish in 20th and 21st places respectively, followed by Andrew McCrirrick and Amy Capper.

Overall congratulations must go to Graeme Sutherland and his team at Lauderdale Limpers, who were hosting their first race in the series and did so very successfully.
