Portobello Promathon draws Gala Harriers down to the seaside

January 1st, 2003

There were no Hogmany hangover blues for three runners from Gala Harriers on new years day when they lined up with 170 other hardy souls to run the annual Portobello Promathon Race.
The four mile race along the Portobello sea front is always popular and the flat course is ideal for fast times, unless it’s cold, wet and windy.

First harrier home was Ron Logan who came an impressive 12th in a time of 22.09, followed closely by Neil Renton who finished 18th in 22.37 and Graham Capper who was 44th in a time of 24.09.

The race was won by local policeman Steve Cairns running for Hunters Bog Trotters who cruised home in a time of 19.29 well in front of his nearest challengers.
