Norham Cross-Country Still Has A Sting!
November 24th, 2002Norham was the venue on Sunday for the first race in the Winter XC Series.
As usual the Norham running club served up a stamina sapping, nettle stinging
course, which had something for everyone, muddy fields, burns and streams
to cross and of course the famous rope climb up that slimy fifty metre
embankment.
First Gala Harrier home was defending veterans champion Neil Aitchison
in 6th place; he was followed home by George Runciman, (running for Lauderdale
Limpers), in 10th and super veteran Jack Knox in 11th. Alistair Laurie
was the third counting team member for Gala coming in 16th from the 74
strong field and ensured that Gala won the team race.
Other harriers running were; Martin Clarke 17th, Graham Capper 22nd, Paul
Morris 31st, Charlie Roberts 40th, Graham Sutherland 41st, (also running
for Lauderdale) and David Hunter 55th.
There was an unusually poor turn out from the ladies section of the Harriers
with only Laura Howie making the trip, finishing 3rd lady behind Sally
Calder of Lauderdale and Gill Tait. The next race in the series is at
Berwick on the 15th of December. Contact Rod Rutherford from Berwick Harriers
(01289 330068) for race information.
